NWA Pilots’ Benefit Guardian Association
US Airways ‘Soaring Eagles’ Retired Pilots Chairman Tom Davis
reported that it has cost more than $800,000 to sue and win
against the PGBC and boost many of their PC-4 pilots from the
PGBC calculated 85% of their US Air pension to 98%.
Current Guardian Association members contributed $100 each to
help the NPBGA get started. Recently, as we enter the NWA
bankruptcy hearings, another $150 was contributed for a total of
$250 each.
We currently have 1238 Guardian Members of 2328 NWA Pilot
Pension Retirees (31 Dec 2003). And as you know, money is the
mother’s milk of litigation.
And as stated in The Birth of NPBGA:
To judiciously use the funds provided by contributors and to
refund any remaining moneys on a pro-rata basis at the
conclusion of this exercise.
The Guardian Association needs more members. Please spread
the word. John Dittberner

In discussions with RNPA it was decided that the Northwest
Retired Pilots' Benefit Guardian Association will focus on pilot
pension and benefit protection and be separate from RNPA.
Guardian Association board member Denny Olden has testified in
Washington DC during Dept. of Treasury hearings and conducted
personal liaison with the UAL, US Airways, and Delta retirees.
President Dino Oliva and Bill Cameron (a practicing attorney)
secured the services of Lindquist & Vennum in Minneapolis and
other counsel in Denver and New York. Daryle Uphoff is our lead
attorney. Each of our present Guardian Board Members contributes
with their experience and knowledge. Joe Ferens is a former ALPA
R&I negotiator as was Denny Olden. We are currently in the
process
of
placing a member on the Retirees’ 1114 Committee in the NWA
bankruptcy hearings in New York. Bill Day is collecting
information about non-qualified benefits. A lot of work has been
done in preparation to be ready for the bankruptcy hearings.
